Contrary to President Trump’s immigration policies, Gavin Newsom – the new governor of California – while giving his first speech promised that the most populated state will be a sanctuary to everyone who seeks it.
The new governor revealed his anti-Trump move immediately after he was sworn in on Monday. He promised to put progressive and principled policies in place which will serve as a solution to the fraud and incompetence obtainable in the White House.
While speaking to a crowd of hundreds gathered in a tent outside the Capitol, the 51 years old governor said a lot of things are hanging in the balance including people’s lives, security, freedom, the air we breathe as well as the water we drink.
The 40th governor of the state made vivid declarations of both the value and the direction of the state. While addressing the direction of the state, Gavin Newsom said the current administration is toxic to California’s interests and values. He condemned the plan to build a wall at the US-Mexico border.
The World is Watching
Gavin Newsom said the country, as well as the world at large, is watching and they will seize the moment to build a better future.
In attendance was Nancy Pelosi – a San Francisco Democrat and newly installed U.S. House Speaker.
The younger and more energetic style of Newsoms’ leadership in comparison to his predecessor was on show when the crowd got their feet by a church choir from Compton which opened the event with upbeat performances of popular songs.
He lauded his predecessor, 80 years old Jerry Brown, but made it clear he will be following a different path in contrast to the fiscal restraint seeing in the last eight years.
He expressed his care for people in the rural communities of the state and said he is proud to be representing them.
