A new immigration proposal that could become effective by 2021 will enable highly-skilled citizens of India to migrate to the UK in their numbers. A senior British minister had on Wednesday, said that the opportunity would only be available to the “best and brightest” Indians.
Britain has another immigration proposal to sign with India that shares similarities with the immigration scheme that exists between France and New Delhi. The France-New Delhi scheme recognizes degrees from both countries as equals both for academic purposes and the job market.
The visa and immigration strategies for post-Brexit was published in a white paper and presented to the House of Commons last month by the country’s Home Secretary, Sajid Javid. The white paper proposed a lift of the cap placed on highly-skilled migrants, without any special consideration to their countries of origin. It also recommended better post-study offers for international students in the UK.
British officials visited New Delhi on Wednesday for a dialogue with the Indian government on the immigration pact. This is about a month after the unveiling of Britain’s post-Brexit strategy for visas and immigration.
There was much cooperation in the meeting which provided a conducive atmosphere for the discussion of the policies that will strengthen immigration policies between the two countries.
Caroline Nokes, Britain’s Minister for Immigration, said the UK is keen on establishing relationships all over the world and that that was the reason British officials visited India to meet with the government.

She further added that at the moment, the UK issues skilled worker visas to Indians than to applicants from the rest of the world combined.
The skills-based immigration system that will become effective by 2021 will give opportunities to people from all over the world to visit, work or study in the UK.
Some of the provisions of the proposal will remove the limits placed on the number of skilled people that can come into the country, such as IT professionals, engineers, doctors and other professionals who want to live and work in Britain.
