The US Increases Period Of STEM Optional Practical Training To 24 Months

The United States Government has announced that the international students studying in the STEM programs who meet the requirements set can apply for 24 months Optional Practical Training (OPT) from May 10.

To be eligible for the new 24 month OPT program of the United States.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s program from the United States department of education, that has to be accredited by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program.
  • The comprehensive list of study program eligible for the 24 OPT training will be available at the official website from May 10.
  • The student must submit I-765 for employment authorization.
  • The prospective applicant must be eligible to work in the OPT training.

The students who entered the United States with the F-1 student visas through the STEM programs to apply for the 24-month training program should be eligible for the 12 month OCT program and must be the valid user of this program. Students must apply for the 24 month OCT program before the expiry of the 12 month OCT training program.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are the common study streams that help students to enter the United States. The students who applied for the MBA program whose bachelors degree is associated with the mathematics degrees can also apply for the 24 month OPT program.

The United States study programs are popular among the international students. It has the highest number of international students, and the US education is also one of the costliest educations. Despite that, there is no halt from the applicants for the US education programs.
