Emergency Visa Granted to Indian Woman to Visit Ailing Husband in UAE

Garima, a woman from India, was issued the medical emergency visa to visit her hospitalized husband in UAE. Her husband suffered from brain stroke and was in a critical condition. The woman started tweeting about her husband’s health condition on Twitter on January 18th, 2018.

Garima tweeted to Sushma Swaraj requesting her to help her with the medical emergency visa. She wrote that her husband is in a critical condition in a medical facility in Dubai, UAE. She had already applied for a medical emergency visa and hoped it comes soon. The UAE Embassy is shut on Friday, and she can’t wait any longer. This tweet of hers was retweeted for more than 1,500 times, which helped her get a response from the external affairs minister.

The cabinet minister said that she was sorry to hear about it. She said the government would definitely help her. In another tweet, she attached the Twitter account of UAE’s consulate general of India, Vipul, to take up the matter. He will look after all her husband’s medical needs and keep Garima updates about everything. After a couple of hours, officials from the consulate general’s office confirmed that her visa processed and that she could fly to her husband any time. The officials later talked to a newspaper from UAE and said that they visited the hospital and met Garima’s relatives. They will be in touch with them and continue helping them. Garima flew to her husband on Friday, January 19th, 2018.

Another tweet from Garima

Garima personally received a call from Sushma Swaraj, which left her speechless. Swaraj was traveling to Pondicherry and called Garima on her way there. She told that they were working on processing her visa since Thursday night and by Friday itself we will do it. Garima thanked Swaraj and everyone else for their help.
