Indian Married Women from Pakistan Seeks Sushma Swaraj’s Help

Desperate to visit her ailing father in India, an Indian woman living in Pakistan shot an emotional video requesting Sushma Swaraj to grant her an emergency visa. Gouhar Khan, a 38-years old woman from Pakistan, sent the video message to her sister living in Bhopal through Whatsapp.

Khan is from Lahore, Pakistan, and said in the video that she has all the documents ready but the Indian Embassy in Islamabad has rejected her application several times. She is a daughter of India. It is her country, and she doesn’t understand why she is denied a visa to enter India. Her brother lives in New Delhi and has collected all necessary documents as told the Indian embassy, but still, the visa got denied. Her father is very ill, and she needs to visit him. Ever since she got married 11 years ago, she hasn’t been allowed to enter India. Her video ended with Khan requesting Swaraj to issue her visa.

Khan was born and brought up in India. She completed her education in India as well but got married to a man from Pakistan. And now she is unable to visit her family back in India.

A father’s love for his daughters

According to her sister, Ashna Khan, Gouhar got married in 1998 and since then has only visited thrice. Her husband is a businessman in Pakistan. Gouhar comes from a huge family of 10 children, but only she lives in Pakistan. Her father currently stays with her younger brother. Ashna said that her father needs a throat surgery and wants Gouhar to come visit her.

When Gouhar was first married, her in-laws were staying in Jamnaka city of Aligarh, India only. For business, her husband had to shift to Pakistan, and she moved with him. His family still stays in Aligarh.
