India To Raise H1B Issue With US Secretary Of State

Rex Tillerson, US Secretary of State, arrived in Delhi, capital of India on October 24.  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj will be having talks with Tillerson on October 25. Tillerson is touring five nations on his office tour. He will be visiting Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Switzerland after visiting India.

India is planning to discuss topics like reduced number of H-1B visas for Indians and cross-border terrorism by Pakistan with Tillerson. The United States of America has always been anti-Pakistan. Sometime ago, Tillerson had even accused the Pakistani government for not taking enough efforts to curb terrorism. In his last meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Tillerson said that Pakistan should increase its efforts to eradicate militants and terrorists operating within the country.

Tillerson is in India for three days. Sushma Swaraj said there will be an in-depth discussion on strengthening Indo-US relationship. In the meeting, they will most likely talk about defence, counter terrorism, security, energy and trade and how the nations can come together in these departments.

Surprise visit to Afghanistan

On Monday, October 23, Tillerson paid a surprise visit to Afghanistan. He feels that India can play a major role in creative a stable and peaceful Afghanistan. He also stated that India and America’s relationship it not just limited at the South Asia level. In his India-policy speech, Tillerson said that India is one of USA’s most reliable partners in a period of angst and uncertainty.

Even though the world wasn’t quite happy that Donald Trump was elected as the president, Indian PM Narendra Modi reached and congratulated him on his win. India has also adapted well to Trump’s transactional approach. Tillerson’s visit is definitely India’s chance at sorting out a little bit tension with the US and tackle issues maturely.
