Canadian Government Supporting Syrian Refugees

Canadian Government Supporting Syrian Refugees

To go through trauma is a brave task. All they need at that time is support, and Canada has been the strongest support system for them. In 2016 – 17, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invited many refugees and provided them with food, shelter, and education. The average time for Canadian visa application processing for these refugees takes around 13 months but due to an overload of applications, the processing time has increased to 19 months.

One such refugee is Hassan Alshikh Darwish. He stayed at a refugee camp in Turkey with his wife, children, and extended family. All this family lived together in Syria’s capital, Damascus, before fleeing to Batman in West Turkey. He and his family got his Canadian refugee visa recently, and it is a bittersweet moment for him. It is sweet because he finally got the opportunity to leave and sad because he will have to leave a vast family back.

His sister recently got resettled in Brussels with her family. But apart from that 19 adults and children of his family are still waiting in Batman for their Canadian government-sponsored visas. His brother applied in November 2016 and is still waiting for it to get approved.

Life in Canada

Now in Canada, Darwish still feels that he isn’t fully settled because he doesn’t have his family there. Darwish is a skilled trades worker. His heart goes out to the 800,000 Syrian refugees still in Turkey where they are made to work in critical conditions.

The Trudeau government is only the ray of hope for these Syrian refugees. The prime minister of Canada and his government have done an exceptional job in bringing them to their country. Ever since he took the seat, Trudeau has brought 50,000 Syrian refugees to Canada. He truly deserves a round of applause for going out of his way for the refugees.
