Canada has made plans to give its Global Talent Stream (GTS) program a permanent status. The GTS program offers a seamless and easy route for foreigners in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) who want to utilize the growing opportunities for them to work in Canada.
The GTS sets beneficiaries on the path to permanent residency
With GTS, employers who want to sponsor the visa application of any new foreign recruits can have their applications processed within two weeks. Again, foreign workers who got into the country through to the GTS scheme get useful work experience which can give them an advantage for when they’ll be applying for permanent residency. Canada’s permanent residency is placed under the Express Entry Route which uses a points-based selection system to process applications.
According to the records of Canada’s Department of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, Indian applicants received 41,000 invites in 2018 which when compared to the 36,310 invites given out in the previous year, translated to a 13% rise.
Canada’s 2019 budget recognizes the responses and commitment the GTS scheme has drawn from job employers in Canada to create 40,000 jobs for citizens of Canada and permanent residents.
Experts say the GTS program is not just an immigration program but a careful design by companies to hire teams which will have both diverse and innovative qualities. The program has two categories.
The requirements for Category A demands that the sponsoring employer be validated first by a specified referral partner. This could be a regional development agency. This category is for innovative companies, and they must be interested in recruiting ‘unique and specialized talent.’
The second category — Category B — demands that sponsoring employers show that they are willing to fill in positions listed on ‘Global Talent Occupation List.’ They should also employ high-skilled foreign talent.
The two categories, however, demand that the designated wage requirements be met.
