Canada’s Borders are Now Open for Skilled Indians

Since Trump resumed office as the president of the USA, there’s been much commotion surrounding the H-1B visa. Indians, who formerly dominated the visa program, are now having second thoughts about going to the US to find work or study.

The story is not any different for Indian migrants who are already in the US seeking a green card. With all the significant changes following immigration and visa issues in the US, there’s now some good news to put all potential applicants in a good mood.

Canada is fast taking the position as the top destination for skilled IT workers from India. This is because the Canadian government has set its target to send invitations to 330,000 new permanent residents in 2019 under its Global Skills Strategy (GTS) program which started in 2017. This GTS program is a seamless and fast track for those who want to work in the country. It has been proven to be useful to Indians who are professionals in STEM and are looking forward to getting good employment.

Reports show that Indians have received the highest number of permanent residency invites as per the Express Entry Route. In 2017, out of the total 86,022 invites sent out, 36,310 were given to Indians. In 2018, the numbers rose by 13%.

A study was conducted on immigration trends and it revealed that the confusion and uncertainty surrounding the H-1B visa program and other visa schemes in the US for workers since Trump became president, has led a lot of companies in the US to move to Canada in order to hire people who have complex and trendy skills such as data analytics.

US companies are fleeing to Canada

The statistics show that the percentage of companies increasing their presence in Canada is about 63%. Out of this percentage, about 21% have already opened nothing less than one branch office in the country. Canada already has plans to add more than one million people into their permanent residency program in a 3-year period.
