Canada Announces 5 Year Plan & $29 Million to Attract Foreign Students

Extending Globally to Find Brightest and Best

The plan tries to increase the number of students arriving from a wider range of nations including Colombia, Mexico, Vietnam, Brazil, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Turkey, Morocco, Ukraine, and France. The plan will also concentrate on promoting global enrollment to schools in Canada outside important cities, as well as education in French language and programs that usually bring fewer students.

As said by Refugees, Immigration, and Citizenship  Minister, The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, assuring that Canada brings the brightest and best students while holding the tools to better defend students and manage the program integrity is eminent to the success of this plan.

Making Process of Application Easier for International Students

Presently available to students in India, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and, currently, Pakistan, the strategy intends to extend the Student Direct Stream (SDS) to even more nations in the following years. The SDS was started in 2018 to improve the study permit appeal process for qualified foreign students. The SDS offers the global study experience faster and more effective for students arriving from these popular nations.

The IRCC also intends to renew its immigration practices and processes, to make it simpler for those aspiring to study, visit, work or stay in Canada. These enhancements will enable appellants to receive decisions more quickly, as well as raise the applications quality.

Immigration Opportunities After Graduation

Ease of getting a student visa and lower tuition fee and residing cost are just some parameters in contributing to the Canadian yearly increase in global students. In 2018, there were above half a million international students in Canada. Approximately 54,000 students granted Canadian PR in that corresponding year.

After finishing their studies at a university in Canada, foreign students can appeal for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP). Canadian federal government acknowledges the benefits that global students bring to the nation. We assume the Global Education Strategy to remain working to make Canada as an excellent place to study.
