Australia's new Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa is only available to migrants who have a minimum taxable income of A$ 83,454.80. David Coleman the country's Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, in a legislative instrument, gave the details of the threshold income amount for intending sponsors of the visa. Last month, Coleman announced that sponsorship for the parent visa program would be open for applications come April 17, 2019. On the approval of a sponsorship application, the concerned parent becomes eligible to send in their application for this parent visa. By July 1, 2019, applications will be open for these parents to send in their applications for the visa. With this visa (subclass 870), parents and even grandparents have a new route to have a reunion with their children and grandchildren and stay with them in Australia for up to 5 years. The regulations for this visa also allow its holders to apply for a second visa when the first one expires. They will be able to do this a short period after the first one expires, but from outside Australia. It provides parents and grandparents the chance to spend 10 years in Australia with their family. The income threshold for this second sponsorship was not specified. For a three-year visa, applicants are required to pay A$5,000 while the sponsorship costs A$420. Sponsors will have to provide proof of their A$83,454.80 income. The visa policy allows for a joint family income to be used in this case.
