UK's Home Secretary Wants an Easier Post-Study Policy in the UK

Sajid Javid, the UK's Home Secretary, has expressed his determination to have the tough rules guiding the post-study opportunities for the student visa scheme, ended. He argued that the UK should embrace a more sensible and flexible attitude towards immigration. Javid, who is among those looking to advance their political career to the office of the Prime Minister, made comments which stood against Theresa May's approach on the matter. He promised to relax the rules which allow international students to stay for only six more months post study to work. According to him, he wants the UK to attract more international students. This he said in London in an event organized by British Future. Jack's went on to say that the UK should be more welcoming and open to having foreign students in the country to stay back and work if they choose to.

Is the UK at a loss with this policy?

In an article for the Financial Times, Javid decried the policy of sending these students who are among the brightest and most enterprising in the world back home after their studies. Johnson, the former minister for universities in the country, lent his voice to support Javid. He had been working to have the immigration bill amended to allow students to stay in the country after studies for two years like they used to. Javid made more comments at the British Future event in London where he said he laid emphasis on his plans to lift the long-standing official target set by conservatives to limit the UK's annual net migration to just tens of thousands. He felt it was ridiculous to set a target for yourself that you cannot meet. Javid touched on the benefits of immigration to the country. According to him, with Brexit and its effect on the table, having such control over numbers could affect public attitude.
